Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s "biggest fan," movie-maker Tim Burton, made a surprise visit to his favourite theme park last week just in time for Hallowe’en and a sneak preview of the new Journey to Hell ride.

The director of unconventional films, often encompassing the macabre, Burton enjoyed a preview of the ride’s Twisted Tunnels, all decked out eerily for the opening night this Friday.

Burton has made a point of including both the town of Blackpool and the Pleasure Beach in a number of his cinema projects and may do so again in his upcoming Beetlejuice 2, set for release in September next year.

Burton walked through the park’s Ghost Train, the first in the world, taking photographs and videos, but the original dark ride, River Caves, opened in 1905, was the centre of his visit on this occasion, comparing it with Fondazione Parada, a gallery in Milan - "a piece of art that just captivates you."

He was in town because of a nearby visit to Manchester on business.
