The Rome edition of the ENADA trade show got off to a quiet opening on Wednesday of this week to some uncertainties about its future – at least on the show floor.

ENADA 2013

The spring ENADA, which is held up country at Rimini, is much larger, two to three times, in fact, while the version held in the nation’s capital was badly reduced in size and, it appeared, in visitors.

The Fiera Roma, the location, is a reasonable venue and it would have been anticipated that in a market of over 420,000 gaming devices, Italy should be thriving. However, a number of factors have emerged to present a relatively gloomy atmosphere on the show floor and many complaints about the state of the business.

The sports betting business, which is substantial in Italy, still couldn’t attract some of the big names, including Novomatic and Merkur, which surprised many and the questions about the viability of two shows in one country were raised frequently among visitors and exhibitors on the first day.

A full report on the show and a background to the problems of the Italian market, will appear in a forthcoming issue of InterGame.
