An overview of the Belgian national situation during the pandemic and the impact that it has had on one of the best-known companies in the country, Elaut, has been provided to InterGame by director Helga Verstraeten.

“Belgium started the summer in a positive way, leaving the first wave of the virus behind us and we all looked forward to a summer with considerable business activity, but the second wave is now under way,” she said. “It means that the hopes for business reviving at the end of July now have to be put back to perhaps October.

“Looking around us, it appears to be the same story in other European countries. The approach to the Covid-19 problem is different from country to country and only time will tell us what the best action should be.”

Verstraeten added: “So we live in our bubbles of five people (until at least the end of August), wear our masks and see what the future brings us.”

All the uncertainty in the business reflected in the operators’ investment attitudes, she said.

“So we decided some weeks ago to give our colleagues the time to enjoy the summer, even if it was at home. We closed the factory and have now opened it on a part-time basis, which is very odd.

“We want to have someone around to make sure that calls and emails are answered.”
