The US is continuing to experience a decline in arcade numbers and a substantial number of locations in the New York and New Jersey area have closed in the past six months alone, according to InterGame sources.
Chris Cotty of operator American Family Fun Centers, told InterGame the recession - partly spurred on by the high fuel prices the country is currently experiencing - has reduced customers disposable income, which could result in people not travelling as much and local arcades and amusement parks reaping the benefits.
"The combination of economic events is restructuring our customers’ spending habits and we must find new ways to reach out to them and bring them into our businesses," he said. "The best answer to this is - we should be doing what we are supposed to do anyway - provide the best entertainments available at a very competitive price."
Cotty did add, however, that shore locations featuring redemption are continuing to perform well.
