The Philippines-based arm of casino resort developer Melco Crown Entertainment is to develop a new edutainment centre in partnership with DreamWorks Animation within the City of Dreams Manila project.

City of Dreams, which is scheduled to open this year, will cover a 6.2-hectare site and feature a host of retail and entertainment options in addition to the casino, including what the company describes as Manila’s first branded family entertainment centre.

The education-based entertainment concept – DreamPlay by DreamWorks – is intended to combine the “best elements” of the DreamWorks library with the “hands-on” activities of a play centre.

Visitors will be able to interact with their favourite DreamWorks characters, including those from the Kung Fu Panda, Shrek and Madagascar movie franchises.

“Melco Crown Philippines is delighted to be introducing DreamWorks to the Philippines as we continue our strategy of delivering innovative leisure and entertainment offerings that enhance the leisure destination appeal of Manila," said Clarence Chung, chairman and president of Melco Crown (Philippines). "Our collaboration with DreamWorks is a further illustration of our expertise in developing world-class, innovative and ground-breaking entertainment for leisure seekers both in the Philippines and internationally.

“The DreamPlay concept delivers an education experience through spontaneous and sensory play that represents an industry first."

City of Dreams is being developed and will be operated by Melco in alliance with SM Group’s Belle Corporation.
