The gradual reopening of amusements and attractions across England – way ahead of the other UK countries – has continued this week. But it comes with some downsides.

JumpInc

The first trampoline and inflatable park in Lincoln, JumpInc, reopened this week after four months in lockdown, with guests required to wear new socks supplied by the location.

A new adventure playground at Daventry Country Park, opened only last year and hardly used because of the virus shutdown, is now back in action.

But there is sadness too, with some locations closing for good. The Drake’s Den soft play area in Plymouth was forced to close – no longer viable with the fresh restrictions that have been imposed on the location.

In Nottinghamshire, Gullivers Valley theme park has run into hot water from parents who complain that children as young as three years old are being required to wear face masks on rides. They point out that other parks bring in the rule at the age of six and government guidelines demand masks only for children of 11.

One of those parks is Alton Towers (age six for masks), reopening this weekend, July 25. Alton Towers is one of the UK’s largest theme parks and caters for a wide catchment area of the central part of England.
