Despite gas prices hitting an all time high of US$4 a gallon in the US, which is having an adverse affect on all businesses, amusement operator Dave and Busters recently opened its 50th location in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, and has reported continuing success with test machines in its other locations.
According to Cory Haynes, of Dave and Busters, the decision to open a location in Plymouth Meeting, when the company already has its largest location just 30 minutes away in Philadelphia, came because the company felt it could add another location close by but in the suburbs - capturing additional revenue.
"The new location will give us another multi-unit city and allow us to continue to build brand identity," said Haynes.
The first Dave and Busters location was opened in Dallas, Texas, in 1982 and since then the operator now covers 22 US States with its locations and also has one in Toronto Canada.
But the expansion plans do not stop there as Haynes explained: "We will open a location in Arlington Texas, in November, next to the new Dallas Cowboy stadium and then in January we will open a location Tulsa, Oklahoma.
"We plan to open an additional four to six locations ranging in size from 17,000sq.ft to 35,000sq.ft over the next year."
All Dave and Busters locations include around 120 machines, which are all under three years old and are made up of a mix of redemption and the latest video.
Redemption games continue to be popular with players and Strike it Rich, currently on test from Skee Ball, has been achieving good numbers as has a prototype game from Sega, called Rambo.
