The department of natural resources in the US state of Maryland has awarded community parks and playgrounds grants totalling $2.5m to a number of its municipalities.

The programme provides essential funding for the creation, enhancement and renovation of recreational facilities in Maryland’s incorporated cities and towns.
“This department programme is so important to communities and municipalities across Maryland,” said Emily Wilson, land acquisition and planning director.
“Our cities and towns really rely on this critical funding for needed recreational amenities designed to improve the quality of life of all our citizens and their neighbourhoods.”
