Sandusky, Ohio will soon have a new esports space from the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and North Coast Entertainment.

Cedar Point Esports will be a "state-of-the-art, full-service gaming area" set over 1,000sq.ft within the Cedar Point Sports Centre which was established in 2017.

The venue, which will have the ability to create and broadcast livestreams and other content, will offer 32 competitive gaming setups, with multimedia video display streamlining connectivity for larger events.

"The vision for this first phase of development, which will open in May, is to create northern Ohio’s premier immersive gaming experience for leagues, camps and clinics," said the company. "The facility also can serve as a practice venue for local high school and collegiate esports teams." 

Upcoming phases of development for the new esports space may F&B amenities and a larger competitive space.“Cedar Fair’s long-term strategy is focused on delivering immersive entertainment experiences that differentiate our parks and create an environment where guests want to come back again and again,” said Richard A Zimmerman, president and chief executive officer of Cedar Fair.

The upcoming Cedar Point Esports space represents the next phase of development for the approximately $50m Cedar Point Sports Centre. Other attractions in the venue are its Sports Force Parks, ten multi-purpose outdoor turf fields, and an 145,000sq.ft basketball facility with 10 courts. 

Esports is growing rapidly in popularity, with global revenue from competitive gaming in 2022 estimated at nearly $1.4bn. Approximately 530m people are reported to engage in esports around the world.
