The amusement industry in Europe is lagging behind many other territories around the world, either through ongoing economic uncertainty or overly restrictive legislation, it has been claimed.

Many governments in Europe take a dim view of redemption, lumping it in with gambling and therefore refusing to allow the sector to flourish as it has elsewhere.

What is needed across the continent, suggested Steve Bryant, international sales manager at LAI Games, is “a bit of a shake-up.”

“Certain governments need to look at the style of operations elsewhere around the world, particularly in heavily-regulated territories like the UK and US, where redemption is not only permitted but is growing,” he told InterGame. “In these countries it is not perceived to be gaming but family entertainment.

“If we could see that across Europe, I’d be very happy.”
