“It's had a lot of attention so far,” said Bob’s Space Racers project manager, consultant and sales, Larry Steele of his new Hang Time attraction. “We finished manufacturing it last month and it’s the first time we’ve shown it anywhere.”

Simply put, a player hangs on to a bar and tries to stay there for a set time without falling off. A uncomplicated concept, but one which attracted much praise at the BSR booth at IAAPA.

“The game features a mechanical winch that pulls the customer up versus them having to climb steps up to the bar. It’s sensor driven, so as soon as the customer is pulled up and clears the sensor, then the bar stops moving and a timer starts. The objective is to hang on as long as possible and it has adjustable time settings, but we’ve noticed that one minute thirty seconds is the optimum level,” said Steele.

“We’ve actually been approached by several different customers from all different fields such as one who wanted inside a trailer for a travelling carnival.  Theme parks are also looking at it too due to its many built-in safety features. The reception has been so good that we’ve actually been in trouble with IAAPA because so many people are stopping to watch, they’ve been blocking the aisle!”

Steele also was keen to show off redemption piece, Prize Wheels, a version of its successful Jersey Wheels designed specifically for FECs. Each wheel represents a different prize tier, winning one wheel advances the player to the next one.

The unit is attendant free and uses bespoke tickets that players can exchange at a redemption counter for the prizes that they see in the game itself. “Our FEC games have been doing really well for many years now but seeing as labour is such an issue, particularly in the US, we’ve created this version which removes that problem,” Steele added.
