TENPIN bowling, a $9bn industry, is going through arguably its most revolutionary years in the history of the automated game. It is effectively at a crossroads, between the old-style sports-type occupation and the more modern family fun activity, with the latter now dominant.

Revolutionary? It must be so because of the underlying shocks that have beset the industry in the past few years.
