In Mexico, a new decree amending the country’s gambling regulations that comes into effect this week could open the door to the use of bill validators.

The decree amends, supplements and repeals various provisions of the Regulations to the Federal Gambling and Drawing Law.
The aim of the reforms is to improve and clarify some legal provisions in the original text of the 2004 regulations, although there are no substantial changes to the legal framework previously established.
According to legal expert Alfredo Lazcano Samano, the new decree reopens the possibility of using bill validators on gaming machines and the introduction of games like roulette.
“Since 2004, the regulations established both possibilities; notwithstanding, before the reform there were some inconsistencies or lack of clarity in the legal text that caused different interpretations by the authorities and the licensees themselves,” explained Lazcano Samano. “In each case, before providing equipment to customers in Mexico, the corresponding authorisation from the General Directorate of Games and Drawings should be reviewed to ensure compliance with the new terms if they are granted.”
