More than 2,000 people have signed up for the event, which started in Cardiff on August 25 and ends on November 2.

“When Matthew Morgan, the son of our chief product officer’s partner returned from a tour of Afghanistan with post traumatic stress disorder, he felt so low at one point he tried to take his own life,” said Heath Samples, chief executive of BetDigital.

“I myself served on tours of duty in Falklands and Bosnia when I was I the RAF and Green Howards so I feel passionately about this cause,” he continued.

Former and serving servicemen and women, friends, family and supporters have signed up to the hike. Teams will walk in a relay and are asking people to join them.

“Matthew’s experiences in Afghanistan and his struggle to cope with them upon his return are truly shocking,” added Samples.

“Please make a donation - however small – to encourage those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder to find the help they need.”

Walkers will carry a specially commissioned silver baton inscribed with the names of the 50 Welsh Guardsmen who died while serving in Afghanistan, the Falklands, Iraq and Northern Ireland.
