Its closure triggered by the pandemic, the much-loved Shinjuku Playland Carnival arcade in the Kabukicho district of Tokyo, Japan, is now closed for good.

Operator Joypack Leisure said that the venue, at its busiest, drew in "5,000 gamers a day", according to The Asahi Shimbun.

The 1,500sq.m space had around 400 arcade games inside, with gamers saying that the venue was a "wonderful, gamer-friendly arcade."

The announcement of the closure comes as a host of historic Sega arcades, also in Tokyo. Though it's not all doom and gloom, as these spaces are to be taken over by Bandai Namco later this year.
