At a time when the UK gaming sector is experiencing significant change, January’s EAG International Expo will be an opportunity for the industry to discuss its future, it has been claimed.

UK trade association BACTA, which represents over 500 businesses across the industry, suggested that the show comes at an important time for the sector.

Although the date the changes proposed in the Triennial Review come into effect is still uncertain, the organisation is anticipating implementation towards the end of January or February. This means that its members will be considering new opportunities for Category B3A, B4, C and D (pushers).

“EAG International is well established as the annual showcase for the industry’s latest products, but it is also the event to which BACTA members from across the country come together to discuss the state of the industry and how we can continue to innovate,” said BACTA chief executive Leslie MacLeod-Miller. “Our sector has struggled over regulation, a lack of consistency in opportunities to offer games to adult customers, a new tax regime and a frustrating delay by the regulator and the government in ensuring that online gambling is treated in the same way both for social and tax purposes as the traditional land-based sector.

“Despite these challenges the industry has a history of being able to bounce back and EAG International is a platform that demonstrates the resilience, ingenuity and determination of an industry that provides fun, entertainment and thousands of jobs in the UK.

“EAG International represents the very best of the amusement industry.”

EAG International Expo takes place at the ExCel centre in London on January 21-23.
