The Australian amusements industry is combining into one overall trade association.

Australian states' associations have consolidated under a national banner

For years, each of the Australian states has had its own amusement and music operators’ association (AMOA), but following the impact that COVID had on the industry, it has been decided to amalgamate all of them into an ‘umbrella’ organisation, the National AMOA.

NAMOA has been going for years, attending to Australian affairs concerning the industry at federal level. Now, its current president, Tony Argery, of Funhouse Amusements, told us: “We had our annual general meeting and it was decided to roll all states into one body.

“We have had state associations for some time, but some of them were not operating really effectively, causing some members to lose interest over the past two-and-a-half years during the pandemic. COVID affected the industry badly and led to some operators going out of business.

“It was a hard decision for our board – and for the membership – but I believe it was the correct one. I think it will make the organisation more representative and flexible and moving forward, all of the states will have a voice in it. We are also updating our constitution and our communications with emails, zoom meetings and other aids that modern technology will enable us to utilise.”
