A large stand at the FER trade show in Madrid illustrated Aristocrat’s confidence in the future of the Spanish street market, said the company’s Daniel Lindsay.

Despite the current depression in the Spanish market, brought about by the economic recession and the smoking ban, Aristocrat is pushing on with its programme of expansion into the market, with a new slimline cabinet boasting twin monitors.

The new model contains a range of games from the very wide Aristocrat inventory of software, led by casino industry ‘standards’ such as Queen of the Nile and Dolphin Treasure in a touchscreen format.

The new Desert Magic has had some graphics changes for the Spanish market and has had injected into it extra interactivity and more bonus payouts. It is expected to successfully pass homologation in Spain within the next couple of months.

“We have tried to get the best of both worlds,” said Lindsey. “We are creating an important niche market for ourselves in Spain and we are satisfying it by using a combination of the proven software range we have, but recognising at the same time that the bars market in Spain needs something specific. We are growing in Spain, despite the downturn here, but that is because we are coming from a small established base.

“The biggest compliment we have had is that our competitors have been to our stand to take a long, hard look at these games.”
