A bid by a group of Greek casinos to outlaw a monopoly on the operation of VLTs in the country has failed in the European Court.

Seven of Greece’s nine casinos had lodged a complaint against the European Commission supporting a 2011 deal to grant lottery operator OPAP the right to operate 35,000 VLTs. They claimed that the deal effectively constituted state aid.

However, the European Court has dismissed the claim saying that the casinos had failed to provide enough evidence to support the state aid allegation.
