Very few attractions can successfully stand alone any more. Over the past 10 years one-time solo attractions like bowling and laser tag have banded together to become greater than the sum of their parts. However, escape rooms are decidedly bucking this trend, with many stand-alone sites thriving.

First becoming popular in Japan in the ’00s, escape rooms have spread rapidly around the world. The attraction, a physical adventure game, typically presents participants with puzzles and riddles they need to complete in order to free themselves from a room.
