A lot happened last year: new products were introduced, older games were given a new lease on life and novel concepts were applied to existing attractions. It’s impossible to tell what the future will hold, but Ian Donegan takes a look at last year’s trends to make an educated guess.

Escape rooms

Escape rooms have been a safe bet over the past couple of years. In fact they have fallen into a rare category – a reliable standalone amusement. This, however, is likely to change. The initial popularity of the format is in all probability due to its freshness and when the dust settles they will need to find their place in among the rest of the FEC’s offerings. Companies like Creative Works, the amusement site theme creator, is banking on this and has developed small footprint puzzles rooms to add to such a site. In order to maximise turnover the trend is moving towards sessions being 30 minutes rather than the traditional hour.
