With esports rising in popularity, Ian Donegan asks: could VR be its most promising route into the amusement industry?

THE competitions we enjoy watching are changing: this is apparent in the Olympics with the recent announcement that its 2024 installment in Tokyo, Japan, will be the first ever version of the tournament to include breakdancing, and promising talks are under way that could lead to the relatively new sport of indoor skydiving being included in 2028 in Los Angeles, US.

These two are at least physical and so conform to every other event that has come before it, but the growing phenomenon that is esports can hardly be said to be physical or even a sport.
