WHEN the technology giant Apple said that it had plans to replace the humble, physical wallet with a number of services available in its iPhone five years ago, it boggled most people’s minds.

Where would they keep their money and cards? And without them how would you pay for anything with a phone? A measly half-decade later and it is clear that the innovator’s plan is starting to take hold. More and more people are holding their various devices to card readers to deposit fees and it’s completely normal – although those insistent on using smart watches to do so haven’t yet discarded public scorn, but give it time.
