I AM not sure which trade show it was, but during one of the many coin-op events that were held annually at the turn of this century, Malcolm Steinberg told me his son, Adam, was going to head up a new company to offer debit card systems to arcades.

I confess that my reaction was lukewarm; after all, that field was already fairly thickly populated with debit card companies. But I was also acutely aware that Malcolm Steinberg was – and still is – a visionary entrepreneur. Hadn’t he led his Leisure and Allied Industries into a market dominance of the arcades business in Australia and Asia with his Timezone?
