From its trademark spicy food to the inspiration for Oscar-winning films, a strong entertainment sector is quickly adding to India’s positive associations

While India is far from a mature market, its entertainment offering has exploded in the past five years. The operator and manufacturer Smaaash, which specialises in virtual reality and sports-based games, is a good illustration of this. Five years ago it started its first site in Mumbai, on the west coast of India. Since then it has expanded to become a 37-site operation in India alone, with a number of other FECs scattered around the globe. Particularly, there has been a lot of growth in the Indian corporate sector, said Kaizad Bajina, business development officer for Smaaash. “As a result we see that people have a lot more money than they did even a few years ago. So, even though inflation is quickly rising here, we see people’s salaries rising faster. In short, it is exactly what you would expect to see in any developing market,” he explained.
