In the US, Penn National Gaming has begun construction of a $360m Indian casino in southern California.
The firm is building the three-storey casino 20 miles east of downtown San Diego in partnership with the Jamul Indian Village. The tribe has held a gambling agreement with the state of California since 1999.
Penn National chief operating officer Jay Snowden says the project will allow the tribe to revitalise its reservation while also generating revenue for local government.
Jamul Village tribal chairman Raymond Hunter says the casino is the realisation of a decade-long dream and will enable the tribe to become a philanthropic leader in the region.
The development, called the Hollywood Casino Jamul, is expected to open in 2015.
