Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has announced that Vietnamese citizens will be able to gamble at two local casinos.
One is on Phu Quoc island and the other at Van Don Special Economic Zone near the Chinese border, local media reports. The Prime Minister’s announcement was made during a meeting with local authorities in Quang Ninh province on December 22.
The announcement was met with opposition from the operators of Ho Tram, which has been excluded from receiving locals, according to a local source in the industry.
The Prime Minister also confirmed that the government is still working on the draft gaming decree. According to local sources, it is expected the decree will be signed off “very soon.”
