Relief for the 600 British bingo clubs could be announced tomorrow by Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe.

The bingo industry has been severely hit by the smoking ban and the cut in the number of £500 jackpot machines permitted in each location.

The UK Government had been promising for months to do something to aid the bingo industry, as the game is regarded as a friendly, neighbourly pastime which should be encouraged not damaged.

The bingo trade association has been calling for some announcement to help the business and it is now expected that a number of measures will be announced tomorrow.

The speculation is that the number of £500 jackpot machines may be linked to the size of the location, perhaps permitting 20 per cent of the location’s jackpot machines to carry the larger prize, or even raising the maximum number of jackpot machines to 15 for each location.
