Typhoon Hato hit the Macau region, damaging some casinos, on Wednesday of this week, reports Fantini’s Gaming Report. One-hundred miles per hour winds and lashing rain flooded parts of the city and some of the casinos.

The authorities asked all casinos to suspend operations wherever power was lost. Most locations have back-up power but in some instances these were knocked out too.

Reports suggest that the volume of business was down by half. Credit Suisse is reported as saying that the August gaming revenues from the resort would be down five per cent as a result.

Many of the top resorts are quoted in the South China Morning Post saying that they had been unable to check in guests although those already in rooms would be permitted to remain. This was because reservations could not be processed without power.

Wynn Macau was in the same position but permitted guests to remain in their rooms.
