Those who want to see the ban on gaming for Vietnamese locals lifted have reason to be optimistic.
Two casino resorts under construction will test the admittance of locals for three years, government adviser Augustine Ha Ton Vinh told GGRAsia. The decision was made at a meeting of the country’s ruling party in September.
Locals will pay US$50 a day to enter or could buy a monthly pass for about $1,100. A revised gaming decree will set the minimum gambling age at 21 with a minimum monthly income threshold.
One casino being built in the Van Don Special Economic Zone in the northern part of the country by Sun Group includes an airport to help bring players in. The resort should open either next year or in 2018.
The casino on Phu Quoc Island in the south is being built by Vingroup. There are unconfirmed local reports that the casino could be open before the end of this year.
Grand Ho Tram will not be part of the trial as the government sees it better fit as a tourist destination, Vinh said.
