WHEN video streamlining and on-demand services first emerged at the time I was producing conferences for the media sector, a high-ranking media executive told me that the broadcast order would never be disturbed: films are first shown in cinemas, then published as DVDs, to be then, months or even years later, shown by TV stations – that’s how it had always been and it wouldn’t change.
Today, we binge watch shows produced specifically for the on-demand services and see films premiered over the internet before they even get to a cinema.
