Revenue at South African casino operator Sun International fell one per cent for the year to June 30, while EBITDA dropped seven per cent.
The group’s revenue declined to R8bn (£0.7bn) but gaming revenue was in line with last year at R6.2bn. EBITDA fell to R2.5bn and the EBITDA margin decreased 2.2 per cent, which the company attributed to an increase in operating costs and lower revenues.
David Coutts-Trotter, the company’s chief executive officer, said that while the popularity of the company’s properties remained high and footfalls were strong, spend per customer declined across the board and comparable gaming revenue decreased by two per cent from last year as customers continued to feel economic pressure.
Demand within the gaming and hospitality industries will remain weak in the year ahead, he said.
