Storm International's chief executive officer, Darren Keane, has been detained by police in Russia over allegations of running illegal casino activities in the country.

Keane was arrested on June 22 on suspicion of continuing to operate gaming equipment on a site in Moscow owned by Storm International.

The company, which was once one of the largest casino operators in Russia, now appears to have shut down its website and officials have not been available for comment.

A source at the British Embassy in Moscow told InterGaming that officials are aware of a British national being detained in the city but would not discuss the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

“Consular staff are in contact with the British national and their next of kin and providing assistance,” they said.
