A process to allow licensed gaming operators in North Carolina, US, to open and run a sportsbook has been outlined.

North Carolina State Lottery Commission

The North Carolina State Lottery Commission approved the guidance in a meeting on Wednesday.

The process outlines the steps an operator must take to open a permanent, in-person sports wagering facility.

Elsewhere in the meeting, there was movement on the esports front. The Commission approved a newly developed Petition for eSport Events or Wagers form, providing a pathway to request the addition of esports events to the state’s sports wagering catalogue.

The Commission also received an update on staff’s progress to implement pari-mutuel horserace wagering via pari-mutuel online and mobile wagering operations.

“No projected launch date exists at this time; however, a rulemaking process is underway and includes proposed rules for authorised pari-mutuel wagering,” the regulator said.

Mobile sports betting in North Carolina launched in March.
