Today’s machines are more akin to entertainment video games and the developers have, over the years, brought in ways to make slot play more community orientated, recreating the kind of excitement that was previously only available in the live gaming area.

Digital technology has changed the face of the genre and made the playing of slot machines an entertainment experience as well as a gambling experience. And that experience is now obtainable everywhere via remote devices, not just in the casino. Bill Wadleigh, director of game development at Bally Technologies, told InterGaming: “From a development perspective, we are always looking for improvements in both hardware and software to provide developers with better tools to make higher-quality games.

“As newer, more powerful hardware capabilities come online we strive to take full advantage of them. The more recent improvements include additional memory, higher performing video cards and surround sound.
