US-based operator Las Vegas Sands is aiming to build a multi-billion euro gambling strip in Spain.
Speaking to reporters in Singapore, where the company’s Marina Bay Sands resort has been posting record results, chief executive Sheldon Adelson confirmed that, having shelved the idea during the recession, LVS is now in talks with the Spanish authorities.
"I want to do a mini Las Vegas in Europe," he said. "I hope we could use the name Europe Vegas of Euro-Vegas or something."
According to Adelson, the project could cost between €10bn and €15bn and would create as many as 180,000 new jobs.
However, having opened discussions with various Spanish regions, he said a project of this scale would require significant government concessions.
