South America’s premier trade show hit by host country’s suicidal import restrictions, writes Phil Clegg.

SAGSE hit by import restrictions SAGSE hit by import restrictions

SAGSE Buenos Aires 2012 in Argentina was a trade show marred slightly by that country’s current stance on imports. Severe restrictions on imports have been in place since the beginning of the year as Argentina tries to get some balance between its imports and exports. If a company is exporting goods from the country, then importation is not a problem, but most of SAGSE’s exhibitors were not in that category.

As a result the show was smaller than in previous years and many exhibitors told InterGaming that the restrictions were not only having a negative effect on the gaming industry, but most other industries as well. It was hoped that this would become apparent to the government at some point, leading to a resolution.

Most exhibitors were reasonably content with the value of the event, however. The show floor was never crammed, but reports suggested that the right people were coming through the door.
