After reporting an 11 per cent increase in first-quarter earnings to ZAR704m, South Africa's principal operator, Sun International, said the 98-room Golden Valley Lodge at the Golden Valley Casino, Worcester, opened successfully in March.
The group, however, warned that trading conditions at its casinos for the remainder of the year were expected to remain difficult as a result of the pressures on disposable income.
The second phase of the ZAR260m refurbishment at the Sun City Main Hotel in the Pilanesberg National Park commenced in February, with completion anticipated in November, the company said.
