The NEC Group, operator of the NEC exhibition centre in Birmingham, is aiming to secure a large casino licence for the site in partnership with Genting UK.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council recently invited potential operators to submit plans for a new casino development and the NEC, with its rail and air links, is expected to be a front-runner.

"Looking towards the future, the NEC Group has robust plans to secure new streams of profit jobs and economic impact for the region," said Paul Thandi the group’s chief executive. "We are delighted that Solihul Metropolitan Borough Council has commenced the licensing competition for a large casino and are working hard in supporting our partners, Genting UK, through the process.

"Should they be successful, a groundbreaking leisure and entertainment complex will be built on the NEC site as the next stage of its transformation to an all year round business and leisure destination."
