Lim Goh Tong, the founder of the Genting Group of companies has passed away, aged 89.

Tong, Malaysia’s third-richest individual, with an estimated net worth of US$4.3bn, died at a medical centre on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.

He is credited with turning a forested Malaysian hilltop into a thriving casino resort and leaves behind a diverse business empire worth $22bn.

Shares in Genting, which is building a $3.4bn casino in Singapore as part of a major overseas expansion, did not move on the news.
