Macau’s judiciary police say they will be following up on the recent appearance of alleged junket thief Huang Shan in Vietnam through the International Criminal Police Organisation, local media reports.
In October, it was reported that the former Macau junket boss, suspected of embezzling an estimated $1.3bn of Macau casino junket investor funds, turned up in a casino in northern Vietnam.
Huang Shan in a public statement said he will face all the debts and would be open to discussions on settlement.
But police director Chau Wai Kuong, in a statement to reporters, said that both time and judicial procedures would be required if the fugitive is to be transferred back to Macau, given that he is a mainland Chinese resident.
Chau said his office will continue to stay in close contact with the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau to follow up on the case.
