Macau’s hotels had 96.7 per cent occupancy during the first week of the Chinese New Year holiday, 2.2 points over last year.

Five-star hotels had a 97.6 per cent occupancy rate, up 1.7 points. The average room rate fell 1.7 per cent to $237. Five-star hotels had an average room rate of $266, down 1.9 per cent.

Visitors from Hong Kong grew 34.8 per cent to more than 231,000 while visitors from Taiwan increased 23.8 per cent to nearly 23,000. Visitation from internationals increased 14.2 per cent to 59,000.
