Macau leader Ho Iat Seng has declared that he will not be standing for re-election due to “health reasons.”

The announcement comes just two months before the October election. The 67-year-old was elected in 2019.
As reported by The Macao News, he wrote in a written statement: “I have profound feelings for Macao and have done my utmost for Macao’s development, But due to the fact that my health has not been fully restored, for the sake of Macau’s long-term development and from the perspective of the overall situation, I have decided not to participate in the election for the sixth-term chief executive.”
