A recent uptick in construction activity from gaming-related companies could be a play for a seventh or eighth gaming licence, said Union Gaming.

On Monday, the brokerage highlighted several projects that “are likely to be used as leverage as it relates to the issuance of a seventh or even eighth gaming licence.”

One project, which is rumoured to be owned and controlled by a large south-east Asian gaming operator, is constructing adjacent to the roundabout close to Wynn Macau and Grand Lisboa.

Another project appears to be the expansion of the Pousada Marina Infante hotel, which has a casino licence eligible for reactivation. Union Gaming also noted a recently announced development of a two-star hotel near the Grand Lisboa by a company called the Golden Dragon Group, an organisation that already owns and operates four service provider casinos in Macau.

Union Gaming said this group could be considered as one of the leading contenders for any new licence.
