Lottery providers in Colombia are now able to use results from foreign draws to offer more draws for customers.

The new agreement announced by Colombia’s gambling regulator, Coljuegos, aims to “energise" the sector and increase the tax collections transferred to the healthcare industry, it said.

“With this new regulation, we hope that the game of chance will increase both its sales and its transfers to health,” said Coljuegos president Marco Emilio Hincapié.

“From the Council we are providing all the guarantees to continue strengthening the industry in the territories.”

Concessionaires must verify that foreign draws have the respective authorisation from the authority in which the draws originated, Coljuegos has ruled.

The respective code from the National Superintendency of Health that allows concessionaries to transmit betting data in real time must also be requested.

Concessionaires must process authorisation before granting entry.

Coljuegos said the new agreement aims to “operationalise” the provisions of article 157 of Law 2294 of 2023, the National Development Plan ‘Colombia, Power of Life,’ which first established the idea of using the results of authorised foreign lottery draws in permanent bets.
