The Brazilian Senate has again postponed a vote on whether to allow land-based casinos, bingo and Jogo do Bicho.

Bill 2,234/2022 was added to Tuesday’s agenda but was scrapped early on in the session.

Senate president Davi Alcolumbre said, per Senado Notícias, that there was a low quorum in the Senate chamber and that “division” remained among senators.

“There is certainly division in the Senate on this matter,” he said.

“With a quorum of 56 senators, given the significant disagreement over this topic and the requests from senators who would like to be present for the vote, the presidency will officially withdraw this item.”

It is the second postponement of the vote in a matter of months. There were hopes that a vote would have taken place at the end of last year, but some senators wanted the bill to go through more rounds of discussions.
