After several unsuccessful years, Saipan has passed a bill legalising casinos and Governor Eloy Inos has signed it.
The bill calls for 25-year casino licences, $30m in fees upfront and $15m each year after that. Operators will be required to invest a minimum of $2bn on a casino resort with at least a 2,000-room hotel, the bill’s author House Floor Leader Ralph Demapan said.
The approval gives expanded gaming a big boost in the Northern Marianas, where gaming has only been legal on Rota and Tinian, which is home to the Tinian Dynasty casino.
