Michael Silberling started out in the casino industry in northern Nevada following his graduation.

“I really went there planning to ski, work for a few years and return to California,” he told InterGaming. “However, once in the business I was attracted by the lights, atmosphere and energy of the casino world. It just seemed so much more exciting and interesting to me than working in a bank, law firm or any of the other more traditional business career paths.” Later, he was the first American sent overseas to assist with the opening of Harrah’s (now Caesars Entertainment) first international casino in Auckland, New Zealand.

“This paved the way in making me the company's international ‘expert’. I now manage all of our international casino business. Caesars’ international business consists of 10 UK casinos, London Clubs International’s international operations in Egypt and South Africa and a technical consultancy in Lebanon, as well as Caesars in Windsor, Ontario, and the Conrad Resort in Punta Del Este, Uruguay.

“I would like to think that in addition to bringing the fun back to Mayfair with the launch of the Playboy Club, I have played a part in transforming the food and beverage offering in the UK casino sector by utilising the power of celebrity and bringing household names such as Marco Pierre White, James Martin and Salvatore on board to run bars and restaurants within our casinos. The thought of casinos as purely gambling-centric business should be transformed to entertainment centres and the journey is under way.”
