When Tim Cullimore left college his home town of Leeds in the UK at 19 he was playing music in various bands and earning not very much as a sales assistant for a clothes chain in the late 1970s.

His entry into the gaming industry was “all thanks to a girl I liked called Hillary Barrett. Her sister Jane had just started as a dealer at the Leeds Dragonara Casino and suggested it might be something I would like and be good at.

“I answered an ad in the Yorkshire Evening Post for trainee dealers and was lucky enough to get through the selection process and join the six-week training school. I had the time of my life.

“I was used to dealing with people and was a bit of a show-off, so dealing appealed to the showbiz side of my personality. It really was like being paid to have a great night out with your mates.

“The banter in those days in the staff room was very animated and the relationship with the punters was quite relaxed within the four walls of the casino.”

Cullimore has always looked for new opportunities to learn and advance within the industry, right up until the present day. He has recently been doing some extensive project management work for the remote gaming industry.

“I have had what some would say is a rather an unusual career path through working in many different gaming jurisdictions, including a very interesting stint working for the Swiss Federal Gaming Board, developing their legislation and participating in the selection process for the casinos which opened in the early noughties.
