Las Vegas Sands COO Robert Goldstein said he expects casino licences in Japan to be awarded by 2020, with casinos opening by 2025.

Melco Resorts and Entertainment chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho agreed and said that construction of Japanese casino resorts would take two to three times longer to build than Macau resorts.

Elsewhere, the Chiba prefecture, home of Japan’s Disneyland, is seeking to host an integrated resort. The prefecture within Greater Tokyo has Japan’s largest airport and is the top host for conventions and exhibitions.

A casino would likely occupy a 5,750 million square foot floating vessel.
